Causes

Signal parameters

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve DTCs and freeze-frame data. Note any related codes (camshaft sensor, oil pressure, fuel regulator).
  2. Visually inspect engine oil level and condition; change oil and filter if dirty or overdue, then clear codes and retest.
  3. Inspect wiring and connectors for the bank 2 'B' cam actuator and cam position sensor; repair any damage or corrosion.
  4. Using a diagnostic tool, monitor commanded vs actual cam angle while commanding the VVT actuator. If actuator does not respond, proceed to bench/functional test of the solenoid.
  5. Remove and bench-test or swap the VVT/OCV (where applicable) to verify operation. Replace if stuck or out of specification.
  6. Check engine oil pressure with a gauge. If low, diagnose oil pump, relief valve or internal engine leaks before repeating VVT tests.
  7. If electrical and oil flow are good but response is still slow, inspect timing chain/belt, guides and tensioners for wear or jumped tooth; repair as needed.
  8. After repairs, clear codes, perform a relearn or cam adaptation procedure if required by the manufacturer, then road test and re-scan to confirm the fix.
