  • Check sensor heater fuse/relay and measure heater circuit resistance and supply voltage

Signal parameters

  • Typical narrowband O2 voltage range ~0.1–0.9 V (upstream swings rapidly; downstream should be steadier but still respond to changes)
  • Upstream sensor: rapid switching several times per second during closed loop; downstream sensor should show smaller, quicker changes following catalyst behavior
  • Slow response is indicated when downstream sensor voltage changes are delayed or damped compared with upstream during rich→lean and lean→rich transitions

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a qualified scan tool, confirm P013E and note freeze frame/live data. Look for related O2, heater, fuel trim or catalyst codes.
  2. Visually inspect Bank 1 Sensor 2 harness, connector and PCM connector for damage, corrosion or heat damage. Repair as needed.
  3. Verify heater circuit: check fuse/relay, supply voltage at connector with ignition on, measure heater resistance per factory spec. Repair wiring/heater faults.
  4. Backprobe the signal wire and monitor voltage while performing snap throttle and steady throttle cycles. Compare timing and amplitude to Bank1 Sensor1. Note delayed/damped response.
  5. Check for exhaust leaks upstream of the sensor that could affect readings; repair if found.
  6. Check short‑ and long‑term fuel trims for signs of fuel system problems that could cause slow transitions.
  7. If wiring and heater are good and downstream still slow, consider catalytic converter degradation (inspect temperature profile or backpressure) or replace the downstream O2 sensor and retest.
  8. After repairs, clear codes and perform a drive cycle to verify the fault does not return.
