Causes

  • Leaking/stuck-open or over-fueling fuel injector on cylinder 11
  • Shorted injector driver or wiring stuck to ground (injector over-firing)
  • High fuel pressure or fuel regulator fault (causing over-fueling at one or more injectors)
  • Faulty or intermittent oxygen sensor or other feedback sensor causing incorrect trim
  • ECU calibration/software fault or internal ECU driver fault
  • Localized intake/exhaust leak or mechanical problem affecting combustion in cylinder 11

Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light (MIL) illuminated
  • Possible rough idle or vibration if the cylinder is affected enough
  • High fuel consumption if persistent over-fueling occurs
  • Black smoke from exhaust (rich condition) in severe cases
  • Possible related misfire codes or driveability complaints

What to check

  • Read freeze frame and full DTC history — note engine operating conditions when code set
  • Scan live data: STFT/LTFT and cylinder-specific trim for cylinder 11, O2 sensor voltage, MAF (or MAP) and fuel rail pressure
  • Inspect wiring and connector for cylinder 11 injector for damage, corrosion, pin pushed out, or water ingress
  • Visually inspect injectors for leaks (fuel smell or wetness) with engine off and fuel system depressurized
  • Check for other related codes (injector circuit faults P020x series, misfire P030x, fuel pressure, MAF/P0101)
  • Measure injector resistance and compare to manufacturer spec

Signal parameters

  • Cylinder-specific fuel trim value (STFT/LTFT for cylinder 11) — reached ECU minimum limit (value and limit vary by manufacturer)
  • Engine RPM (rpm) at time of fault
  • Short-term fuel trim (STFT) typical expected range roughly -25% to +25% (manufacturer-specific)
  • Long-term fuel trim (LTFT) typical expected range roughly -25% to +25% (manufacturer-specific)
  • Injector pulse width (ms) and duty cycle for cylinder 11
  • Fuel rail pressure (psi or bar) — typical gasoline systems ~40–70 psi / 2.8–4.8 bar (model-dependent)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve freeze frame and live data; verify the code is current and record STFT/LTFT for cylinder 11 and related sensors (O2, MAF/MAP, fuel pressure).
  2. Inspect visually: wiring, connector, and injector for cylinder 11. Repair any obvious damage or corrosion.
  3. Check for other codes (injector driver P020x, misfire P030x, fuel pressure) and address those first if present.
  4. Measure injector electrical resistance (engine off, disconnected). Compare with spec. If out of range, replace injector.
  5. With a noid light or oscilloscope, verify injector pulse and duty while engine running. Look for continuous-on condition or irregular pulses.
  6. Measure fuel rail pressure static and during operation. If pressure is high, diagnose fuel pressure regulator or feed fault. High pressure can cause rich conditions.
  7. Swap the suspect injector with a known-good injector in another cylinder (if accessible). If the code or symptoms follow the injector, replace the injector.
  8. Perform a cylinder balance or shut-off test (where applicable) to confirm cylinder contribution to idle. Use caution and follow manufacturer procedures.
  9. If injector and fuel pressure ok, evaluate O2 sensor feedback and MAF/MAP accuracy — replace or repair faulty sensors. Clear codes and retest.
  10. If all wiring, injectors, sensors, and fuel pressure check good, consider ECU/driver module fault and consult manufacturer technical service info before replacement.

Likely causes

  • Cylinder 11 injector leaking or stuck open
  • Injector driver (ECU) shorted or stuck on for cylinder 11
  • Faulty wiring or connector causing continuous injector energizing
  • Contaminated injector causing overfueling of a single cylinder
  • Abnormally high fuel rail pressure combined with marginal injector control
  • Invalid oxygen sensor/HEGO signal causing incorrect trim command

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Stored when the engine control module detects cylinder 11 fuel trim has reached the ECU’s minimum allowed value (maximum negative trim) and cannot correct the condition.
