Causes

  • Low battery or poor battery/cable connection
  • Blown or corroded fuse or faulty relay in the actuator supply circuit
  • Damaged, corroded or disconnected wiring or connector to actuator A
  • Short to ground on the actuator supply wire
  • High resistance in ground or supply path (voltage drop)
  • Faulty actuator (internal short or excessive draw)

Symptoms

  • Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illuminated
  • Related actuator not operating or intermittent operation
  • Reduced engine performance or limp mode (depending on which actuator)
  • No crank/no start or irregular system behavior if actuator is critical
  • Stored freeze frame data showing low supply voltage

What to check

  • Scan for stored/active codes and view freeze frame/live data
  • Verify battery voltage at rest and with key ON/engine running
  • Inspect fuses and relays related to actuator A supply
  • Visually inspect actuator connector and wiring for damage/corrosion
  • Backprobe actuator supply pin and measure voltage with key ON
  • Measure voltage drop between battery positive and actuator supply under load

Signal parameters

  • Expected supply voltage: battery voltage (approx. 11.5–14.5 V with key ON/engine running)
  • Low-voltage detection: typically triggered when supply is significantly below battery (varies by model; often < ~8–10 V)
  • Signal type: switched battery/feed supply to actuator (controlled via fuse/relay or PCM output)
  • No PWM or data signal expected on a pure supply feed; should be steady 12 V

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve freeze frame and live data. Note battery voltage when code set.
  2. Verify battery health and charging system (voltage at battery terminals with key ON and engine running). Replace or charge battery if weak.
  3. Inspect and verify all fuses and relays in the actuator A supply circuit. Replace any blown or suspect components.
  4. Visually inspect wiring and connectors from PCM/relay/fuse to the actuator. Repair damaged insulation, corrosion, or loose terminals.
  5. Backprobe the actuator supply terminal with key ON (engine OFF) and confirm supply voltage equals battery voltage. If low, trace back toward fuse/relay/PCM.
  6. If voltage is present at fuse/relay but low at the actuator, perform voltage drop test under load to locate high resistance point (measure battery positive to actuator supply while operating).
  7. Check continuity and resistance between actuator supply pin and fuse/relay/PCM. Look for short to ground or open circuit.
  8. Disconnect the actuator and measure resistance between its supply terminal and ground to detect internal short or excessive draw.
  9. If wiring and actuator check good, test or substitute the actuator with a known-good unit where possible.
  10. If problem persists and wiring/actuator are confirmed good, inspect PCM/ECM supply driver and grounds. Consider module bench test or replacement per manufacturer procedures.
  11. After repair, clear codes and perform functional test/road test. Monitor for code recurrence and verify system operation.

Likely causes

  • Blown fuse or faulty supply relay for actuator A
  • Corroded/loose connector at actuator or inline connector
  • Broken or shorted supply wire (open/short to ground)
  • Weak battery or poor battery cable/ground
  • Failed actuator drawing excessive current

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Actuator A supply voltage below expected threshold — low feed detected. Check battery, fuses/relays, wiring/connectors, actuator, and PCM power output.
