Causes

  • Faulty inverter auxiliary power supply/regulator (over-voltage)
  • Failed DC–DC converter producing excessive output
  • Short or leakage to a higher-voltage source in harness or connectors
  • Poor or high-resistance ground returning incorrect measurements
  • Damaged inverter control module (internal failure)
  • Blown or incorrect fuse/relay malfunction causing abnormal supply

  • Reduced drive power / limited motor torque (limp mode)
  • Inability to drive with Drive Motor B or degraded propulsion

  • Possible loss of regenerative braking or charging anomalies

What to check

  • Read freeze-frame and full code list; note time, ambient and battery conditions
  • Confirm presence of P0C10 and any related codes (inverter, DC–DC, HV battery)
  • Inspect wiring and connectors to Drive Motor B inverter for damage, corrosion, or water
  • Check fuses and relays for inverter auxiliary supply and DC–DC outputs
  • Measure DC–DC converter and inverter auxiliary supply voltages with vehicle OFF and ON per service manual
  • Verify ground connections and measure resistance to chassis/battery negative

Signal parameters

  • Inverter auxiliary/power-supply voltage (expected nominal ~12 V or vehicle-specific; acceptable range often ~9–16 V) — compare to spec
  • HV battery pack voltage (vehicle-dependent; confirm normal pack voltage before suspecting short)
  • DC–DC converter output voltage (should match auxiliary supply spec)
  • Inverter internal supply sense line (if available) — should track auxiliary supply
  • Ground loop/return resistance — low ohms (verify good chassis ground)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Safety first: follow manufacturer HV safety procedures. Disable HV system and remove service plug before probing high-voltage components.
  2. Verify the code with a capable scan tool, record freeze-frame data and live data for inverter auxiliary voltage and DC–DC output.
  3. Visually inspect inverter B, connectors, harness, and DC–DC converter for damage, corrosion, or water intrusion.
  4. With HV disabled and within safe procedures, check harness continuity between inverter auxiliary supply pin and DC–DC/PCM; look for shorts to battery or other supplies.
  5. Check fuses and relays in the inverter/auxiliary supply circuit; replace any blown or suspect devices and retest.
  6. Measure DC–DC converter auxiliary output under load and no-load conditions; compare to factory spec. If output is above spec, suspect DC–DC or regulator failure.

  • Failed inverter internal regulator (most common)
  • DC–DC converter producing higher-than-normal auxiliary voltage
  • Wiring shorted to battery HV or another unintended supply
  • Corroded connector or poor ground raising sensed voltage
  • Faulty inverter control electronics or sensor fault
