Causes

  • Check battery voltage and ground integrity at module while key on/engine off
  • Backprobe sensor signal and reference circuits to verify voltages and signals

Signal parameters

  • Expected sensor output range: ~0.2–4.8 V depending on temperature and circuit design (consult OEM spec)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve codes, freeze-frame, and live data; confirm P0C1E is current and note related codes.
  2. Perform a visual inspection of the pump, harness, and connector for damage, corrosion, or fluid contamination. Repair obvious issues.
  3. With connector connected, backprobe sensor signal, reference and ground terminals; verify reference voltage (typically 5 V) and good ground with key ON. Record voltages.
  4. Monitor sensor voltage while warming system (or apply heat carefully) to observe if voltage changes with temperature. Lack of change suggests open/short or failed sensor.
  5. With power off, measure sensor resistance at connector and compare to OEM temperature/resistance table. If resistance is out of expected range or near open/short, replace sensor or repair harness.
  6. Perform continuity checks from module connector to sensor connector for short to ground/power or opens. Wiggle harness while monitoring for intermittent changes.
