Causes
- Open, short, or high-resistance wiring between the charge port door switch and control module
- Corroded or disconnected connector at the switch or module
- Failed charge port door open request switch or sensor
- Blown fuse or poor battery/ignition power to the wake circuit
- Faulty BCM/charging control module or software issue
- Water intrusion or physical damage to harness or switch
Symptoms
- Charge port door does not open or respond to request
- Charging session will not start or charge port not detected
- DTC P0CC6 stored and possibly MIL not illuminated
- Intermittent operation of charge port door or delayed response
- Other body functions controlled by BCM may show communication/wake issues
What to check
- Scan for stored codes and freeze frame data; record any related U-codes or low-voltage faults
- Verify battery voltage at rest and while attempting wake (should be ~12.0–14.5 V)
- Visually inspect switch, charge port area, harness and connectors for corrosion, water, or damage
- Verify fuses and relay(s) supplying power to the wake circuit and BCM
- Back-probe the switch signal wire at the switch and at the BCM while operating the request; observe voltage change
- Perform continuity and resistance checks between switch connector and BCM connector with battery disconnected
Signal parameters
- Typical signal voltage range: 0 V to ~VBATT (depends on manufacturer design — may be active-high or active-low)
- Switch closed resistance: near 0 Ω (closed) ; open: OL or very high resistance
- Wake pulse: brief transition between resting and active state when request is made (milliseconds to seconds)
- Expected current for switch input: very low (µA to low mA); large current indicates short or incorrect wiring
- Continuity:
Diagnostic algorithm
- Retrieve and record DTCs and freeze frame data. Note battery voltage and any related codes (U-codes, low-voltage codes).
- Attempt to reproduce the failure: operate the charge port door open request while watching the scan tool live data for the wake/switch signal.
- Visually inspect charge port door switch and connector for corrosion, bent pins, water intrusion, or mechanical damage. Repair or replace as needed.
- Verify fuses/relays feeding the circuit and check battery/ground connections. Repair any poor power or ground.
- Back-probe the switch signal at the switch and at the BCM while commanding the door open. Confirm the signal changes state and that the same state is present at the BCM connector.
- If the signal is present at the switch but not at the BCM, perform continuity testing between the switch and BCM connectors. Repair wiring or connectors if open/high resistance is found.
- If signal is lost at the switch, isolate and bench-test the switch. Replace the switch if it fails resistance/operation tests.
- Check for short to battery or ground if signal is stuck at VBATT or 0 V respectively. Repair shorted wiring.
- If wiring and switch check good, check for module faults and reflash/update BCM/charging module software per OEM procedures. Replace module only after eliminating wiring/switch faults.
- Clear codes and verify repair by repeating operation several times and confirming no reoccurrence.
Likely causes
- Damaged connector or pins at charge port door switch
- Broken or chafed wiring inside the harness (open or short to ground/power)
- Faulty switch contact (stuck open) or internal corrosion
- Intermittent loss of battery voltage to wake circuit (weak battery or loose connection)
Fault status
Status
Charge port door A open request switch wake-up circuit fault detected. The control module did not receive the expected wake/switch signal from the charge port door open request switch. Inspect switch, wiring, connectors, fuses, and module communications.
Repair difficulty: Medium
Diagnostic time: 0.5-2.5 hours
