Causes

  3. Visually inspect sensor, connector, and harness at pedal for damage, corrosion, water ingress, or loose pins; repair any obvious issues
  4. Clear codes and perform a pedal actuation self-test while watching live data; note if the code returns and compare both channels for agreement
  5. Backprobe connector: measure reference voltage (often 5 V), ground continuity, and each channel voltage at rest and during slow/full pedal travel; look for noise, dropouts or mismatched outputs
  6. Perform wiggle test on harness while monitoring live data to reproduce intermittent faults; inspect for voltage changes or loss of signal
  7. If wiring and supply are good but sensor outputs are out of range or inconsistent, replace the brake pedal position sensor per OEM procedure
  8. After replacement, perform any required calibration/learning procedure with scan tool; clear codes and confirm successful self-test and absence of DTC on road test
  9. If replacement did not clear fault and wiring and module inputs are verified, check module grounds, CAN communications and consider control module diagnostics or software update as per technical service information
