Causes

  • Open or shorted wiring in fuel pump control B circuit
  • Corroded, loose or damaged connector at fuel pump or PCM
  • Blown fuse or faulty fuel pump relay related to circuit B
  • Faulty fuel pump motor or pump assembly (intermittent or high resistance)
  • Faulty PCM/ECM output driver for pump control B
  • Water ingress or mechanical damage to harness in fuel tank area

Symptoms

  • Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminated
  • Engine cranks but will not start or has extended cranking
  • Stalling or no fuel pressure
  • Intermittent starting or loss of power under load
  • Reduced fuel pump operation or no pump operation

What to check

  • Read stored and pending DTCs and freeze frame data with a scanner
  • Verify battery voltage is healthy (measure at battery and pump connector)
  • Check fuel pressure (key on and during cranking/running) for expected PSI
  • Inspect fuses and fuel pump relays related to circuit B
  • Visually inspect wiring and connectors from PCM to pump for damage/corrosion
  • Backprobe fuel pump control connector to observe voltage/ground behavior when commanded

Signal parameters

  • Battery supply present at fused feed: typically ~12 V on key ON
  • Control output shows switching when PCM commands pump: ground-side or pulse 0 V↔battery depending on design
  • When commanded, fuel pump circuit should show current draw in amp range (varies by pump model)
  • Open circuit: infinite resistance/OL between PCM control pin and pump connector
  • Short to ground: near 0 Ω to ground on control circuit when not commanded

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Verify DTC P2632 and note any related codes. Clear codes and attempt a re-test to confirm repeatability.
  2. Check battery voltage and condition. Low battery can cause misleading results.
  3. Inspect fuses and relays for the fuel pump circuits. Replace any blown fuses and test relays.
  4. Measure voltage at the fuel pump feed and control pins at the pump connector with key ON and during cranking. Note whether the PCM is commanding the pump (voltage switch or pulsed ground).
  5. If no command at the pump connector but PCM should be commanding, backprobe the PCM output pin and check for continuity to the pump connector. Repair any open/broken wires or corroded connectors.
  6. If command is present at PCM but not at pump connector, trace wiring for opens/shorts; repair or replace harness sections as needed.
  7. If command and correct voltage reach the pump but pump does not run or current draw is abnormal, bench-test or substitute fuel pump to verify pump motor condition. Replace pump assembly if faulty.
  8. If wiring and pump both check good and command signal abnormal at PCM, inspect PCM connector condition and consider PCM driver failure—replace PCM only after confirming external wiring and loads are good.
  9. After repairs, clear codes and verify proper operation under various conditions (key ON, cranking, running) and that P2632 does not return.

Likely causes

  • Damaged wiring or connector at the fuel pump harness (most common)
  • Blown fuse or failed relay in pump supply/control circuit
  • Corroded connector pins causing open circuit or high resistance
  • Failed fuel pump motor drawing no/low current
  • PCM output driver fault (less common)

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Fuel Pump Control B circuit open/fault detected — check wiring, connectors, fuse/relay and fuel pump for open or high-resistance condition before considering PCM replacement.
