Causes

  • Open or shorted wiring in the solenoid K control circuit
  • Poor or corroded connector or terminal at the solenoid or module
  • Failed pressure control solenoid K (stuck or open coil)
  • Faulty PCM/TCM driver circuit
  • Intermittent wiring fault due to chafing, water intrusion or connector damage
  • Blown fuse or poor battery/ignition voltage supply to transmission circuits

Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light and/or Transmission warning light illuminated
  • Harsh, delayed or erratic shifts
  • Transmission slipping or inability to hold gear
  • Reduced engine power or limp-in/limp-home mode
  • Stored transmission-related diagnostic trouble codes

What to check

  • Read freeze frame and pending codes; note drive conditions when code set
  • Visually inspect solenoid K connector and harness for damage, corrosion, pin push-out, or moisture
  • With ignition off, check continuity between solenoid pin and PCM/TCM connector pin
  • Measure solenoid coil resistance (compare to service spec) and inspect for open circuit
  • With harness connected and ignition on, backprobe for battery voltage on supply circuit and check ground/driver signal
  • Perform wiggle test of harness/connectors while monitoring live data or checking for code reappearance

Signal parameters

  • Supply voltage: near battery voltage (approx 12 V) on the solenoid supply circuit with ignition ON; varies by vehicle
  • Solenoid coil resistance: typically in the range of about 10–50 ohms (refer to vehicle spec)
  • Driver output: PWM ground switching from PCM/TCM; duty cycle 0–100% to control pressure (frequency commonly 20–300 Hz depending on design)
  • Open-circuit condition: infinite/very high resistance between solenoid coil terminals
  • Short-to-ground: near 0 ohms between control circuit and chassis ground; short-to-battery: constant 12 V present on control line

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve codes and freeze-frame data, then clear codes. Test-drive to see if P282D returns and under what conditions.
  2. Visually inspect the transmission solenoid harness and connector for corrosion, bent pins, water intrusion, or physical damage.
  3. Disconnect connector at solenoid K. With ignition OFF, measure coil resistance across the solenoid terminals; compare to spec. An open or infinite reading indicates a failed solenoid.
  4. With connector disconnected and ignition ON (engine OFF), verify battery voltage present at the solenoid supply circuit. No supply voltage suggests fuse/relay/ignition feed issue.
  5. Backprobe the control/driver wire at the solenoid connector while cranking/idle or during commanded activity using a scan tool. Look for PWM switching or a changing voltage—if the line is stuck high/low, suspect wiring or module.
  6. Check continuity from the solenoid control pin to the PCM/TCM pin with ignition OFF. High resistance or open indicates harness fault. Also inspect for shorts to ground or battery.
  7. If wiring and solenoid check good, test/replace the transmission control module or have it bench-tested by a specialist. Reinstall and clear codes.
  8. After repair or replacement, perform a full function test/road test and re-scan to confirm the code does not return.

Likely causes

  • Broken wire or disconnected connector to Transmission Pressure Control Solenoid K
  • Corroded pin or poor harness ground at the solenoid connector
  • Solenoid coil open or internally shorted
  • Control module output transistor failed
  • Aftermarket items or recent repair disturbed harness/connectors
