Diagnostic algorithm

- Verify BMS supply fuse/relay and measure battery voltage at the BMS power pin with ignition ON and during cranking.
- Check ground continuity between the BMS ground and chassis using a low-impedance meter.
- Measure CAN bus voltages at the BMS connector: CAN_H, CAN_L, and differential. Confirm ~2.5 V idle and correct differential on active frames.
- Check termination resistance across CAN_H and CAN_L near BMS and at opposite end(s); expect ~60 Ω total on a properly terminated two-terminator CAN
- Use a scan tool or CAN analyzer to watch for BMS messages while cycling ignition and waking modules; note if messages appear intermittently or never.
- Isolate wiring sections if a bus short or open is suspected (disconnect segments, measure continuity and insulation to chassis/battery).
- If wiring, power and grounds are good but no communication exists, attempt software/firmware interrogation or reprogramming if supported; check for manufacturer TSBs/updates.
- Replace BMS only after confirming lack of communication is not caused by wiring, power, termination, or another module. After repair, clear codes and verify communication remains stable over drive cycle.
