Causes

What to check

  • Verify sensor power and ground circuits (check fuses, relays, ground points)
  • Check CAN-H and CAN-L voltage with key on, engine off and while communicating
  • Measure resistance across CAN-H to CAN-L with power off (approx. 60 ohms total if two 120Ω terminators present)

Signal parameters

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a diagnostic tool capable of reading Land Rover network modules. Record U0235 and any related codes. Note freeze frame data and timestamps.
  2. Attempt to communicate directly with the frontal distance sensor speed control module. If it does not respond, confirm this on the scope/CAN analyzer.
  3. Inspect sensor connector and harness for physical damage, corrosion, or water ingress. Repair or clean as needed.
  4. Verify sensor power and ground: check fuses/relays and measure voltage to the sensor with ignition on. Repair any power/ground faults.
  5. Check CAN bus voltages at the sensor connector: verify recessive and dominant levels and measure resistance across CAN_H and CAN_L for proper termination.
  6. If voltages or termination are incorrect, trace wiring for short to ground/battery or open circuit. Repair wiring, pins, or connectors as required.
  7. If wiring and bus look correct but module still not communicating, swap or test the sensor on a known-good vehicle harness (if available) or replace sensor module per manufacturer procedure.
  8. After repair, clear codes and perform a test drive/functional test of affected ADAS systems. Re-scan all modules to ensure no further U-codes.
  9. If problems persist, inspect gateway and related ECUs (they may block or filter CAN messages) and consider manufacturer software updates or reprogramming.
