Causes

What to check

  • Confirm presence of auxiliary heater module on the network (module detected by tool?)
  • Check battery voltage and charging state; ensure stable power before reprogramming
  • Inspect wiring connectors to the auxiliary heater module and vehicle gateway for damage or corrosion
  • Check service literature/TSBs for known software mismatches or required software baselines
  • Verify recent repairs or module replacements (service history) that could cause version mismatch

Signal parameters

  • Module identification (hardware P/N) and software/firmware version strings
  • UDS/OBD session responses (ECU present, response times, negative response codes)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect an OEM-level diagnostic tool and read U0325 plus any other stored U- and P-codes; record freeze frame and timestamps.
  2. Check network topology and confirm the aux heater module is present and responding to diagnostic requests. Note module ID and software/firmware version.
  3. Inspect battery state and ensure stable power (recommend using a battery maintainer during reprogramming).
  4. Review service bulletins and vehicle repair history for recent module or gateway software updates that could create a mismatch.
  5. If module software does not match vehicle baseline, attempt to reflash or update the auxiliary heater module with the correct OEM software using prescribed procedures.
  6. If reflashing is unsuccessful or module is unresponsive, inspect connectors, harness continuity and CAN bus integrity (check for short to battery/ground, intermittent open, or high resistance).
  7. If an aftermarket or incorrect replacement module is fitted, replace with a correct OEM module or obtain compatible software/adapter and code the module to the vehicle.
  8. After software update or module replacement, clear codes and perform functional tests of the auxiliary heater and related network communications. Monitor for reoccurrence.
  9. If fault persists, consider reprogramming gateway/other dependent modules per OEM instructions or escalate to manufacturer support.
