  • Monitor CAN bus health and packet errors (bus error counters, CAN voltage levels)
  • Compare sensor part number and serial/firmware ID against OEM parts database

  • NOx C concentration (ppm) or diagnostic output stream
  • Sensor heater voltage/current and status
  • Sensor supply voltage (Vbatt) and ground integrity

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Read and record all DTCs and freeze frame from all modules. Note any related communication (U0xxx) or NOx circuit (P22xx) codes.
  2. Inspect the NOx sensor C connector and harness for corrosion, loose pins, bent terminals, or damage. Repair as needed.
  3. Using an OEM-qualified scan tool, read software/firmware and calibration IDs from the NOx sensor C and the host control module. Compare to vehicle service data/parts database.
  4. Verify vehicle received correct part number and software level for the NOx sensor. If part is incorrect or aftermarket, replace with correct OEM sensor.
  5. Check CAN bus integrity: monitor message frequency, bus voltages, and error counters while cycling ignition and during operation.
  6. If a recent reflash or update occurred, verify update completed successfully. Reapply the correct OEM software/calibration to both the NOx sensor (if supported) and vehicle module per OEM procedure.
  7. After programming or repairs, clear codes and perform a functional test/road test while monitoring NOx C data and related parameters.
  8. If code returns and all wiring, part numbers, and software are confirmed correct, escalate to OEM technical support—possible module replacement or advanced reprogramming may be required.
