Causes

What to check

  • Visually inspect IPC connectors and harness for corrosion, bent pins, water ingress or damage
  • Scan CAN network for bus errors, repeated messages, or missing expected IDs
  • Compare IPC software/part number and calibration to factory data (check for recent service or replacements)
  • Inspect for aftermarket devices connected to the network (alarm, telematics, audio amplifiers)

Signal parameters

Diagnostic algorithm

  3. Visually inspect IPC connectors, pins and associated harness for damage, corrosion, moisture. Repair or replace damaged connectors/wiring as required.
  4. With ignition on, monitor CAN bus health with a capable scanner and/or oscilloscope. Look for expected idle voltages and clean dominant/recessive waveforms. Note any error frames or repeated retries.
  5. Trace and repair any CAN wiring faults found (shorts to ground/ battery, opens, high resistance splices). Check termination resistors (~60 Ω total across CAN_H to CAN_L).
  6. Check for and remove aftermarket modules temporarily; verify if fault clears.
  7. Verify IPC software/part numbers against manufacturer records. If mismatched or outdated, reprogram/reflash with latest calibration and reinitialize networks per service procedure.
  8. If diagnostics isolate the IPC as the source (malformed messages on oscilloscope, persistent fault after wiring and power verified), replace the IPC and program it to vehicle. Follow relearn procedures if required.
  9. Clear codes, perform functional tests and road test to confirm repair. Re-scan to ensure code does not return.
