Causes

  • Faulty Moveable Roof Control Module "B" (internal fault or corrupted firmware)

What to check

  • Read current and history DTCs, freeze frame, and network-related codes with a capable scan tool
  • Attempt to communicate directly with Moveable Roof Control Module "B" (module present/responding?)
  • Visually inspect connectors and wiring at the module for damage, corrosion or bent pins
  • Check module power and ground circuits for correct voltage and good ground continuity
  • Measure CAN/LIN bus voltages at the module (compare CAN_H/CAN_L to expected values)
  • Verify proper termination resistor value across CAN_H and CAN_L (typically ~60 ohms total)

Signal parameters

  • CAN_H and CAN_L at rest ~2.5 V each (recessive state)
  • Dominant CAN state typically shows CAN_H ~3.5 V and CAN_L ~1.5 V (differential ~2 V)
  • Voltage supply to module (battery voltage) should be within ~0.5 V of battery
  • Good ground: near 0 V between module ground and battery negative with vehicle off
  • Termination resistance across CAN_H and CAN_L typically ~60 ohms (two 120 ohm in parallel)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve all network-related DTCs from all modules and record freeze frame data.
  2. Attempt to communicate with Moveable Roof Control Module "B" using the OEM or capable scan tool; note if module responds.
  3. Inspect harness and connectors at module B for damage, corrosion or loose pins; reseat connectors.
  4. Check battery voltage at module power pin with ignition on and measure ground resistance to battery negative.
  5. Measure CAN_H and CAN_L voltages at the module with ignition on; compare to expected values and to another module on same bus.
  6. Verify termination resistance across CAN_H/L (~60 ohms). If abnormal, isolate segments to find short/open.
  7. Perform a wiggle test on harness while monitoring communication for intermittent changes.
  8. If wiring and power/ground are good, attempt software/firmware re-flash or module re-initialization per OEM procedure.
  9. If fault follows the module after testing and reprogramming, consider replacing Moveable Roof Control Module "B" and re-check network.
  10. After repairs, clear codes and verify normal operation and that no related network codes return.
