Causes

  • Faulty Comfort and Convenience Display B module (firmware/software fault)
  • Corrupted or unsupported message format from the display
  • Intermittent or lost communication on the data bus (CAN/LIN/FlexRay depending on vehicle)
  • Damaged wiring or poor connector pins at the display or gateway
  • Incorrect module configuration or calibration after replacement
  • Low or intermittent power supply or ground to the display

Symptoms

  • Warning message or DTC stored for Comfort and Convenience Display B
  • Incorrect or garbled display information on comfort/convenience screens
  • Intermittent loss of display functions (climate, seats, vehicle settings)
  • Related systems responding incorrectly or failing to update
  • Possible multiple communication-related DTCs present

What to check

  • Read all stored and pending codes from all modules with a capable scan tool and record freeze frame/live data
  • Check for Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) or software updates for the display or gateway
  • Visually inspect connectors and wiring at the display, gateway and body control module for corrosion, damage or loose terminals
  • Check module power and ground circuits for correct voltage and good continuity
  • Scan the vehicle network for bus errors, error counters, or other module communication faults
  • Perform wiggle tests while monitoring bus errors to try to reproduce the fault

Signal parameters

  • CAN idle (recessive): CAN_H ≈ 2.5 V, CAN_L ≈ 2.5 V; dominant: CAN_H ≈ 3.5 V, CAN_L ≈ 1.5 V
  • CAN bus termination resistance: ~60 Ω (two 120 Ω terminators in parallel)
  • LIN idle: near battery voltage via pull-up; dominant: near 0 V
  • Module supply voltage: vehicle battery range (approx. 9–16 V depending on system), stable with key on
  • Ground continuity: low resistance (

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a professional scan tool and read all DTCs and freeze frame data from the Comfort and Convenience Display B and gateway/body modules.
  2. Note any additional communication or power-related codes (U-codes, B-codes, P-codes) and address those first if they explain the network issues.
  3. Inspect the display module connectors and wiring for corrosion, bent pins, water ingress, or physical damage. Repair any issues found.
  4. Verify display module supply and ground voltages with key on and during operation. Repair power/ground faults before further testing.
  5. Monitor the vehicle bus (CAN/LIN) while operating the display and attempting to reproduce the fault. Look for error frames, bus-off events, or abnormal voltages.
  6. Perform termination and continuity checks on CAN/LIN wiring. Repair short/opens or incorrect terminations.
  7. If the wiring and power/ground are good, check for software/calibration updates for the display and gateway. Reprogram/update modules per manufacturer procedure.
  8. If updates and wiring/power are good but problem persists, temporarily substitute a known-good display or gateway (if available) to isolate the faulty unit.
  9. If replacement is required, program/configure the new module to vehicle specifications; clear codes and verify fault does not return after test drive.
  10. Document findings and repairs; re-scan all modules to confirm network health.

Likely causes

  • Loose/corroded connector at the display module
  • Software mismatch or missing calibration for Display B after service
  • Open/shorted CAN/LIN wiring between display and gateway
  • Faulty display module producing corrupted messages
  • Faulty gateway or another module sending invalid data
