Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve and document all DTCs and freeze frame data. Note whether U1714 is current or intermittent.
  2. Verify battery voltage and inspect/replace any blown fuses related to door/window circuits.
  3. Perform visual inspection of the door wiring harness, connectors at the door, hinge area and window motor connector; repair any damage or corrosion.
  4. With a scan tool, command the window up/down and observe module status and any communication messages; note if the command is sent from FDM and whether a response is present.
  5. Probe the motor connector: check for battery voltage, ground, and control signal while commanding the window. If no control signal, suspect FDM or communication fault.
  6. Wiggle the harness/connectors while operating the window to detect intermittent opens/shorts. Repair any intermittent wiring or connector faults.
  7. If power/ground and control signal are present but the motor does not respond or runs poorly, disconnect motor and bench-test motor for correct operation and current draw. Replace motor/regulator if failed.
  8. If motor and wiring are good, perform module-level checks: check FDM power/ground, reflash/update module software per TSBs, and consider module replacement if confirmed faulty.
  9. After repairs, clear DTCs and retest multiple cycles to confirm successful repair and no recurrence.
