U1750
HDD Invalid Media
Causes
- Corrupted or improperly formatted HDD/media (file system errors)
- Failed or failing internal hard drive (mechanical/electronic fault)
- Loose, damaged or corroded HDD connectors or cabling
- Loss of power or intermittent 12 V / ground to the HDD assembly
- Infotainment software/firmware bug or incomplete update
- Incompatible replacement media or aftermarket HDD installed
Symptoms
- Infotainment message or warning: 'HDD Invalid Media' or similar
- Navigation maps or saved media not available
- Unit fails to boot properly, freezes, or restarts
- No audio from stored media or track list empty
- DTC stored in infotainment module; possible related communication errors
What to check
- Retrieve full DTC list from infotainment and related modules with scan tool
- Check software/firmware version and known Service Bulletins for infotainment unit
- Inspect HDD connector and cable for damage, corrosion, or loose pins
- Verify constant 12 V and ground at the head unit/HDD with battery connected
- Check for intermittent power using a scope or test lamp during operation
- Confirm media compatibility if HDD was replaced or upgraded
Signal parameters
- HDD mount status / filesystem status flags reported by head unit
- Read/write error counters or CRC error counts (HDD controller status)
- 12 V supply voltage to infotainment/HDD (should be ~12–14 V with key on/run)
- Ground continuity and voltage drop under load
- CAN bus infotainment message IDs and error frames related to audio/navigation
- Power enable/ignition-switched supply and accessory supply states
Diagnostic algorithm
- Use a factory-capable scan tool to read and record U1750 and any related codes; note freeze-frame or event data.
- Verify the infotainment unit software/firmware level against dealer database; apply known updates if available.
- Visually inspect the HDD and connectors: remove trim and access the unit; check for loose harness, bent pins, or corrosion.
- With the ignition on, measure 12 V and ground at the HDD power pins; check for voltage drop during spin-up. Repair wiring or grounds as needed.
- If wiring and power are good, see if the head unit offers a diagnostic HDD test, backup/export option, or reformat procedure. Follow manufacturer procedure.
- If possible, remove the HDD and test/format on a bench tool per manufacturer instructions (observe data retention and warranty rules).
- If HDD fails bench test or cannot be reformatted, replace HDD with OEM-compatible part and re-install; do not use unapproved aftermarket drives.
- After repair or replacement, clear codes, perform any required reprogramming or calibration, then verify infotainment operation and confirm no recurrence of U1750.
- If problem persists, escalate to module replacement or factory-level diagnostics, capturing CAN traces and module logs for supplier support.
Likely causes
- Corrupted file system or invalid media format
- Failed internal HDD (wear-out, mechanical failure)
- Loose connector or poor power/ground to HDD
- Infotainment software/firmware error requiring update
