Causes

  • Blown or faulty fuse for antenna/amplifier power
  • Open, short, or high-resistance wiring or connector in antenna feed circuit
  • Corroded or loose antenna connector or ground
  • Failed antenna amplifier or powered roof/whip antenna
  • Damaged coaxial cable or antenna element (water intrusion, physical damage)
  • Faulty radio/head unit or telematics module

Symptoms

  • No XM/satellite radio reception or intermittent reception
  • “No Signal” or “XM Antenna” message on radio display
  • Heavy noise, dropouts, or low audio quality on satellite channels only
  • Related U-codes or audio/telematics faults stored
  • Other radio sources (FM/AM) may remain normal if independent

What to check

  • Verify vehicle battery voltage is good and ignition is in accessory/ON position
  • Scan for related DTCs in audio/telematics modules and note freeze/frame data
  • Inspect fuse(s) for the XM/audio antenna power feed and replace if blown
  • Visually inspect antenna, roof connector, and coax routing for damage, corrosion or water ingress
  • Wiggle-test connectors and harness while observing radio behavior for intermittent faults
  • Check for recent aftermarket radio/antenna installations that could affect the circuit

Signal parameters

  • Antenna power feed voltage (ignition ON/radio ON): typically ~12 V or switched battery (verify spec in service manual)
  • Coax impedance: nominally ~75 Ω (continuity to antenna, not an absolute multimeter reading)
  • Measured signal strength (head unit/telemetry parameter): low or zero dBm for satellite carrier when DTC set
  • Resistance between antenna center conductor and shield: open or short indicates damaged coax/cable

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Reproduce fault and record conditions (ignition state, radio on, ambient), check and note any additional codes.
  2. Verify and inspect fuses and relays supplying the XM antenna/amplifier; replace any blown fuses and retest.
  3. With connector disconnected, measure voltage on the antenna power feed pin at the head unit/module harness with radio ON. Compare to specified battery/switched voltage. If absent, trace back to fuse/ignition feed.
  4. If proper feed voltage is present at the harness, disconnect the coax at the roof antenna and measure for continuity from head unit coax center to antenna connector. Inspect for open shield or center conductor.
  5. Inspect roof antenna assembly and connector for corrosion, water ingress, or broken coax. If available, temporarily connect a known-good antenna or jumper coax to verify reception.
  6. If power is present but no signal and coax is intact, test/replace the antenna amplifier (if separate) or replace the roof antenna assembly.
  7. If antenna and wiring check good, test the head unit/telematics module output. Consult manufacturer diagnostic procedures for module bench tests or swap with known-good unit if available.
  8. After repair, clear codes and verify reception and that U1944 does not return during road/test conditions.

Likely causes

  • Power feed fuse blown or ignition-switched feed open
  • Poor/cracked connector at antenna or module causing voltage drop
  • Antenna amplifier failed internally (no output even when supplied)
  • Coax shield or center conductor broken causing low signal level
  • Ground connection to antenna or amplifier high resistance

Fault status

⚠️ Status
U1944 — XM Antenna Circuit Low (UTA – US). Indicates low-voltage or low-signal condition on satellite/XM antenna feed or amplifier; can result in no or poor XM reception.
