Generic B — Body

Right Curtain Deployment Control 2

Brand: Generic
Type: B — Body
AI status
Completed
ready
Completed 100%
Page language: EN

Causes

  • Open or short in right curtain squib wiring (circuit 2)
  • Corroded, loose or damaged connector at curtain airbag or control module
  • Failed right curtain airbag (squib) or internal short
  • Faulty airbag/occupant restraint control module (RCM/SRS ECU)
  • Previous deployment not cleared or incorrect repair after crash
  • Poor ground or power supply to SRS module

Symptoms

  • SRS/Airbag warning lamp illuminated on dash
  • Possible supplemental restraint system disabled message
  • Vehicle failed SRS system self-test (DTC present)
  • No other obvious drivability symptoms (engine unaffected)
  • If previously deployed, restraint system warning may persist until repaired

What to check

  • Read and record all SRS codes and freeze frame data with a capable scan tool
  • Inspect right roof rail, A-pillar trim and headliner for signs of previous deployment or repair
  • Visually inspect wiring harnesses, connectors and insulation for chafing, corrosion, or damage near the right curtain airbag
  • Check SRS module power and ground circuits and related fuses/relays
  • Check connector retention and pin condition at the airbag and the SRS module
  • Measure squib circuit resistance (compare with manufacturer spec) and for continuity/shorts to ground or battery positive

Signal parameters

  • Curtain squib resistance (typical low-ohm value; manufacturer spec required)
  • Open-circuit or infinite resistance condition
  • Short-to-ground or short-to-battery (low resistance)
  • SRS module supply voltage present (battery + with ignition ON)
  • SRS module ground continuity

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Read and record DTCs and freeze-frame data with an SRS-capable scan tool. Note any related codes.
  2. Before doing any work, disable the SRS system per manufacturer procedure (disconnect battery negative and wait specified time) to reduce risk of accidental deployment.
  3. Visually inspect right-side curtain airbag area (roof rail, headliner) and harness routing for physical damage, water ingress, or signs of previous deployment/repair.
  4. Inspect connectors at the curtain airbag and SRS module. Unplug, inspect pins for corrosion, push-fit, or bent pins. Reconnect and verify secure fit.
  5. With battery connector still removed and following safety guidelines, measure resistance of the right curtain squib circuit (across squib connector) and compare to manufacturer specification. Look for open (infinite) or very low resistance (short).
  6. Check for continuity to ground or battery positive to detect short circuits. Wiggle harness while monitoring resistance to find intermittent faults.
  7. If wiring and connectors check good, test or replace the curtain airbag squib only per manufacturer instructions. If squib measures within spec but code persists, verify power and ground to the SRS module and consider module fault.
  8. After repairs, reconnect battery per safe procedure, clear codes with scan tool and perform SRS system checks. Verify no recurring codes and that the SRS warning lamp behaves normally.
  9. If code persists after logical repairs, consult vehicle-specific service manual or OEM resources for module reprogramming or replacement and consider dealer-level diagnostics.

Likely causes

  • Damaged wiring between right curtain airbag and SRS module
  • Corroded connector at the curtain airbag module or at the main SRS harness
  • Shorted or failed curtain squib (internal short or open coil)
  • Faulty SRS module or intermittent connector contact

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Right curtain airbag deployment control circuit 2 — circuit fault detected (open/short/high resistance). SRS warning lamp on; curtain airbag deployment may be disabled until repaired.
🔴 Repair difficulty: Hard
⏱️ Diagnostic time: 0.5-3.0 hours
