Causes

  • Open or short in the sensor wiring harness
  • Corroded, loose or damaged connector at sensor or control module
  • Failed/defective left side restraints sensor 3 (internal fault)
  • Poor or missing ground or reference power to the sensor
  • Water intrusion or physical damage to sensor/harness
  • Faulty restraint control module or internal module software/firmware error

Symptoms

  • Airbag / SRS warning lamp illuminated on instrument panel
  • Diagnostic trouble code B0093 stored in SRS/Body module
  • Possible disablement of left side airbag/seatbelt pretensioner deployment for safety
  • Related side-impact restraints may not operate correctly until fault is cleared and repaired
  • Vehicle may fail safety inspection where SRS faults are required to be repaired

What to check

  • Connect a capable scan tool and record stored codes and freeze-frame data; view live data for the sensor if available
  • Check for additional SRS codes that may point to harness or module issues
  • Visually inspect sensor, connector, and wiring for damage, corrosion, pin push-outs, signs of water intrusion or physical impact
  • Check fuses and power supply circuits to the restraint system and sensor
  • Backprobe sensor connector with ignition on (or per OEM procedure) and verify reference voltage and ground presence
  • Perform continuity checks between sensor connector and SRS control module pins (with battery disconnected as required)

Signal parameters

  • Reference supply: typically a switched or ignition supply and/or reference voltage (commonly ~5 V) — verify with OEM diagram
  • Signal type: may be analog (0–5 V), resistance-based, or digital (LIN/CAN/SPI) depending on vehicle — consult OEM wiring
  • Typical signal idle: depends on sensor design; many accelerometer/impact sensors report near-zero acceleration or stable digital value when quiescent
  • Expected resistance: varies by sensor design (some use kΩ-level resistances) — measure and compare to OEM specification

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Read and record all SRS/B codes and freeze-frame data with a manufacturer-level scan tool.
  2. Visual inspection: check left-side sensor location, mounting, connector, and harness for damage, corrosion, or water ingress.
  3. Verify battery voltage stable and fuses related to SRS are intact.
  4. With ignition per OEM procedure, backprobe the sensor connector: confirm reference voltage and good ground presence; note signal behaviour on live data or multimeter/oscilloscope.
  5. Perform continuity and resistance checks on wiring between the sensor connector and restraint control module; repair any opens/shorts found.
  6. Wiggle the harness/connectors while monitoring live data to identify intermittent faults.
  7. If wiring and power/ground are good, compare sensor output to expected OEM values. If out of spec, replace the sensor.
  8. If sensor replacement does not clear code, inspect and test the SRS control module communication lines (CAN/LIN) and verify module grounds and power; consult wiring diagrams.
  9. If module input appears suspect, consult manufacturer service info — reprogramming or module replacement may be required only after ruling out sensor/harness faults.
  10. After repairs, clear codes, perform required SRS system initialization or calibration per OEM, then re-scan and test-drive as required to confirm fault does not return.

Likely causes

  • Wiring harness open, short to ground or short to power between sensor and SRS module
  • Corroded/damaged connector at the sensor or module
  • Faulty left side restraints sensor 3 (common cause)
  • Missing/poor chassis ground or blown/incorrect fuse supplying the sensor
  • Water-damaged sensor or harness (common in door/side impacts)
  • Faulty restraint control module (less common)

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Left side restraints sensor 3 - circuit/communication malfunction detected. SRS warning light illuminated; side restraints may be disabled until fault is diagnosed and repaired.
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
⏱️ Diagnostic time: 0.5-2.0 hours
