Causes

  • Compare live data/occupancy readings from left and right seat sensors (if available)
  • Check related fuses and ground connections

Signal parameters

  • Sensor output: occupancy/pressure sensor provides resistance or voltage signal (varies with load)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a diagnostic scanner capable of reading body and SRS modules. Record B120F and any related codes and freeze frame data.
  2. Follow manufacturer safety procedures for SRS work: switch ignition OFF, disconnect battery negative and wait the recommended time before accessing SRS components.
  3. Perform a visual inspection under the left front seat: look for loose connectors, damaged wiring, pin corrosion, water ingress, or aftermarket modifications.
  4. With connectors exposed, check for continuity and proper pin seating. Wiggle harness and connectors while monitoring live data or checking for intermittent faults.
  5. If safe and allowed by manufacturer, measure sensor mat resistance or voltage and compare to the right seat (known-good) or to specification if available. Note: do not disconnect SRS airbag connectors unnecessarily.
  6. If wiring and connectors are good but the sensor readings are incorrect, replace the left seat cushion/occupancy mat or cushion module with an OEM part.
  7. After repair or replacement, reconnect battery, clear codes, and perform any required occupant classification/seat calibration or SRS system relearn via diagnostic tool per service manual.
  8. Recheck for DTC reappearance and perform a road/occupancy test to verify normal operation.
  9. If problem persists, investigate SRS/BCM module communication and consider module replacement or software reflash as directed by technical service information.
