Causes

  • Damaged wiring harness with insulation abrasion contacting battery/constant 12V
  • Shorted or stuck Switch-2 assembly (internal short to battery voltage)
  • Corroded or bridged connector pins allowing 12V to feed the signal circuit
  • Faulty splice, jump, or aftermarket accessory tied into the circuit
  • Blown or incorrect fuse or fusible link feeding the switch circuit
  • Control module internal fault (less common)

Symptoms

  • Related switch or function inoperative or permanently on
  • Illumination of related warning lamp(s) or a stored body-control fault
  • Possible parasitic battery drain or blown related fuse
  • Intermittent operation of the component controlled by Switch-2
  • Stored or repeat DTC B1211

What to check

  • Scan for additional codes and view freeze frame/ignition status
  • Visual inspection of Switch-2, connector, and wiring for damage, corrosion, or pin intrusion
  • Verify connector is fully seated and locking tab engaged
  • Inspect for recent aftermarket taps or repairs near the circuit
  • Measure voltage at the Switch-2 signal pin with ignition off and on
  • Disconnect the Switch-2 assembly: observe if code clears or symptoms change

Signal parameters

  • Expected idle/off signal: ~0 V (or low, near ground) when switch is off
  • Expected active signal: battery voltage (approx. 12–14 V) when switch is commanded on
  • Short-to-battery condition: signal pin reads steady battery voltage when switch should be off
  • Continuity: infinite/very high resistance when switch circuit open; near 0 Ω when closed
  • No more than a few milliamps of leakage current on the signal circuit with switch open

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Record freeze frame and any related codes. Note vehicle configuration and applied accessories.
  2. Perform a visual inspection of the switch, connector, and harness routing; look for chafing, pin corrosion, or aftermarket modifications.
  3. With ignition off, disconnect the Switch-2 connector. Measure voltage at the harness side signal pin to see if battery voltage is present with the switch disconnected.
  4. If battery voltage is present with connector disconnected, trace wiring toward the power source. Use back-probing and a meter to find where 12V intrudes (inspect splices, junctions, nearby power feeds).
  5. If no battery voltage with connector disconnected, reconnect and measure voltage at the switch terminal while operating the switch. Compare to expected signal parameters.
  6. If measurements point to the switch assembly (signal only present when assembly connected and not behaving correctly), substitute a known-good switch or bench-test/replace the assembly.
  7. Repair any damaged wiring, replace corroded connectors, and secure harness away from moving parts. Replace blown fuses or correct any improper aftermarket taps.
  8. After repairs, clear codes, cycle ignition and operate switch to verify fault does not return. Perform a parasitic draw test if battery drain was a symptom.
  9. If wiring and switch check good but code persists, consider module input circuit testing or replacement per manufacturer procedures.

Likely causes

  • Shorted wire between accessory/battery feed and Switch-2 signal wire due to chafing or connector damage
  • Failed Switch-2 assembly where internal contacts are welded or shorted to battery feed
  • Corroded connector with conductive corrosion bridging the feed and signal terminals
  • Recent service or accessory installation that tapped constant power into the wrong terminal

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Switch-2 signal circuit is reading battery voltage when it should not (short to battery detected). Fault present and stored in memory.
