Diagnostic algorithm

  2. Visually inspect the platform light assembly, lens, connector and visible harness for damage, corrosion or water intrusion.
  3. Verify fuses and relays for the lighting circuit. Replace any blown fuses and retest.
  4. With ignition/lighting circuit commanded ON, measure battery voltage at the lamp feed terminal. If no voltage, backprobe upstream toward BCM to locate loss of supply.
  5. With lamp removed, check continuity/resistance of the lamp. Replace lamp if open or outside spec. If LED module, follow manufacturer test procedure or substitute a known-good unit.
  6. Check ground: measure continuity between lamp ground and chassis. Repair any high-resistance ground.
  7. If supply and ground are correct but lamp does not illuminate, test the BCM output pin at the connector for switching (voltage change or PWM) while commanding the lamp ON/OFF. Use an oscilloscope or a multimeter capable of detecting PWM.
  8. Inspect/repair any damaged wiring (splice, connector, chafe), isolate and repair short to ground or B+ as required.
  9. If wiring and lamp are good but BCM output is not switching correctly, verify BCM power/grounds and communication. Reprogram or replace BCM only after confirming circuit wiring and components are fault-free.
  10. Clear codes and verify repair by cycling lights and performing a road/operation test; re-scan to confirm code does not return.
