Causes

  • Blown fuse or faulty relay supplying the massage pump
  • Damaged, corroded or disconnected connector(s) at the pump or massage module
  • Failed massage pump motor or internal valve/actuator
  • Open/short in wiring harness between pump and control module
  • Poor ground connection
  • Software or configuration fault in the massage control module or vehicle network

Symptoms

  • Driver’s seat massage function does not operate
  • Intermittent operation of seat massage (works sometimes)
  • Unusual noise or no noise when massage is commanded
  • Warning message or icon on the infotainment/vehicle message centre
  • DTC B12CC stored in module memory

What to check

  • Read all stored DTCs and freeze-frame data with a Land Rover-capable scan tool
  • Visually inspect fusion links, fuses and relays related to seat/massage circuits
  • Inspect connectors at the seat massage pump and massage control module for corrosion, water, damage or loose pins
  • Check wiring harness for chafing or damage between seat and control module
  • Confirm battery voltage is healthy (11–14 V) during test attempts
  • Listen for pump motor operation when massage is commanded (if safe to do so)

Signal parameters

  • Supply voltage to pump when commanded: ~11–14 V (should be near battery voltage when activated)
  • Control input: PWM or switched 12 V command from massage control module (present when function selected)
  • Ground continuity: low ohms to chassis ground from pump ground
  • Current draw when pump runs: elevated above idle circuit (typical pump currents often range from ~1–5 A depending on design)
  • No or low voltage on supply/control when inactive

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a compatible diagnostic tool and record all related DTCs, freeze-frame and live data while attempting to operate the massage function
  2. Confirm vehicle battery voltage is in normal range before tests
  3. Visually inspect fuses and relays for the seat/massage circuit; replace any blown items and re-test
  4. Perform a wiggle test of the seat wiring and connectors while commanding the pump to reproduce fault or intermittent behaviour
  5. Command the massage pump via the diagnostic tool and observe live data: check for command signal and supply voltage at the pump connector
  6. Measure voltage at the pump connector while the function is commanded. If supply voltage present but pump does not run, measure current draw to determine if motor is drawing load or open circuit
  7. If no supply voltage is present, trace back to the relay/fuse and control module output for faults or shorts
  8. Inspect and test ground continuity from pump ground pin to chassis ground
  9. If wiring and power are good but pump does not operate, remove seat and bench-test the pump (apply appropriate fused 12 V and ground) to verify pump motor function
  10. If bench test shows pump OK, inspect/replace massage control module or repair wiring harness as required
  11. Check for any software updates or TSBs from Land Rover that relate to seat massage function, reprogram module if recommended
  12. Clear codes and retest system operation after repairs; verify absence of code return and proper function

Likely causes

  • Failed pump motor or seized pump
  • Corroded/loose connector at the pump or module
  • Blown fuse or defective relay in pump supply circuit
  • Open/short in the harness to the seat massage module
  • Control module internal fault or failed module software

Fault status
