Causes

  • Open or shorted harness between right rear seat climate module and blower motor
  • Poor or intermittent ground or supply to the seat climate module
  • Corroded/loose connector at module or blower motor
  • Faulty right rear seat blower motor (armature, brushes or internal wiring)
  • Faulty seat climate control module (internal driver)
  • Blown fuse or fault in power distribution to the module

Symptoms

  • Right rear seat ventilation/airflow not working on speed 2 (may affect other speeds)
  • Seat climate fan stuck off or stuck at one speed
  • DTC stored in HVAC/seat climate module and possible warning message in vehicle
  • Intermittent operation of right rear seat blower
  • Other seat climate functions may work normally

What to check

  • Read and record all stored DTCs and freeze frame data with a capable scan tool
  • Visually inspect right rear seat climate module connector and blower motor connector for corrosion, water ingress, loose pins or damage
  • Check fuses and power distribution for seat climate system
  • Backprobe module connector to verify battery supply (ignition on) and ground presence
  • Check continuity and resistance of wiring between module and blower motor (with battery disconnected)
  • Command the right rear blower through a diagnostic tool to observe behavior and monitor live data

Signal parameters

  • Permanent/ignition-switched supply voltage to module: ~12 V (vehicle battery voltage)
  • Control output type: usually PWM or switched ground to blower motor — expected to vary with speed command
  • At commanded speed 2 expect a low-to-mid duty PWM (typical ~20–40% duty) or a partial voltage output (varies by vehicle design)
  • Typical PWM frequency range for blower control: ~100–500 Hz (manufacturer specific)
  • Module ground resistance: low (near 0 Ω); verify good chassis ground continuity

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a diagnostic scanner, record DTCs and live data, and attempt an active test for the right rear blower (command speed 2).
  2. Visual inspection: check the right rear seat climate module and blower motor connectors for corrosion, bent pins, water intrusion or damaged insulation.
  3. Verify fuses and battery/ignition power to the seat climate module with a multimeter.
  4. With ignition on, backprobe the module power and ground pins to confirm stable battery voltage and a good ground.
  5. Command the blower to speed 2 and observe the control output at the module connector: verify expected PWM or switched output and duty cycle. If no output, suspect module driver fault.
  6. If module output is present, check continuity from module connector to blower motor and measure voltage at the blower motor while commanded. If voltage is absent at the motor, locate harness open/short.
  7. If voltage is present at the motor but motor does not run or draws excessive current, remove and bench test the blower motor by applying 12 V directly to verify operation and current draw.
  8. Inspect for high resistance or intermittent connections; wiggle harness while commanding blower to reproduce fault.
  9. Check for related network/communication faults that could inhibit module operation; reflash/update module software if recommended by manufacturer.
  10. Repair or replace failed component (repair wiring/connectors, replace blower motor or module), clear codes and re-test operation across all speeds and cycles.

Likely causes

  • Damaged or disconnected wiring to right rear blower motor
  • Corroded connector at the module or motor
  • Blower motor failed (electrical fault)
  • Module output driver failed

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Right rear seat climate control module — fan motor speed 2 circuit fault. Control signal or load outside expected range (open/short/intermittent or module driver failure detected).
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
⏱️ Diagnostic time: 1.0-2.5 hours
