  • Inspect door harness at hinge/bellows for damaged wires or crushed insulation
  • Disconnect actuator connector and check for corrosion, bent pins or water ingress
  • Try unlocking with key fob, interior switch and manual key to confirm behavior

Signal parameters

  • Supply voltage to actuator: ~12 V when commanded (may be polarity-switched depending on actuator type)
  • Ground continuity: low ohms to chassis ground from actuator return
  • Actuator coil resistance: typically a few ohms to a few tens of ohms (manufacturer-specific)
  • Command signal: momentary 12 V or reversed polarity pulses from BCM during lock/unlock command
  • Scan tool: door unlock command state and door actuator feedback (if available)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a diagnostic scanner and confirm B1753 plus any related codes; note conditions when code set (key fob, ignition off/on, door open/closed).
  2. Visually inspect fuses, relays and wiring at passenger compartment fuse box and BCM for obvious damage. Replace any blown fuses.
  3. Operate the lock while an assistant activates the unlock command and listen at the driver door for actuator response. If no noise, remove interior door trim to access actuator.
  4. Inspect the door harness through the door jamb bellows for broken wires; gently flex the door while probing for continuity/short between actuator pins and BCM. Repair any broken wires.
  5. With ignition ON, back-probe the actuator connector and operate the unlock command: verify correct supply voltage/polarity to the actuator. If voltage present but actuator does not operate, bench-test or replace actuator.
  6. If no voltage at actuator connector, trace wiring back to BCM: check connector pins for corrosion, continuity to BCM, and proper ground. Repair wiring/connectors as needed.
  7. If wiring and actuator check good, verify BCM outputs and inputs with a scan tool/oscilloscope. If BCM does not command output and wiring is good, consider BCM or door ECU fault and follow manufacturer steps for reprogramming or replacement.
  8. After repairs, clear codes and perform multiple lock/unlock cycles; confirm code does not return and door operates normally.
