What to check

  • With ignition on, operate mirror controls and listen for motor noise
  • Inspect and wiggle the mirror connector while operating to reproduce fault
  • Measure supply voltage and ground at the mirror connector while commanding movement

Signal parameters

  • Supply voltage at mirror connector: approximately battery voltage (~11–14 V) when commanded
  • Motor coil resistance: typically low ohms (spec varies by model; expect single- to low-double-digit ohms)
  • Command signal: direct switched supply or PWM duty-cycle to motor depending on mirror design
  • Motor current draw: should increase when motor is powered; abnormal high current indicates binding/short, near-zero indicates open circuit
  • Communication: LIN or CAN messages present for mirror module on some models (check bus traffic)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Verify the symptom and confirm B1A60 is present. Note any other related DTCs.
  2. Clear codes and attempt to re-run mirror operation to see if code returns (confirm intermittent vs permanent).
  3. Visually inspect mirror for damage or water ingress; remove mirror cover and inspect internal gears and motor for obvious mechanical faults.
  4. Check fuses/relays for the mirror circuit; replace if blown and retest.
  5. With connector accessible, backprobe or measure voltage at supply pin while commanding mirror movement. Expect battery voltage when motor should run.
  6. Check ground continuity from mirror connector to chassis ground with ignition off.
  7. Disconnect mirror connector and measure motor coil resistance. If open or infinite, motor is faulty. If very low/short, suspect short circuit.
  8. Bench-test the motor by applying 12 V directly (observe direction and smooth operation). If motor fails or draws excessive current, replace mirror motor or entire mirror assembly.
  9. If motor and wiring test OK, inspect/replace the mirror control module or address communication faults (scan tool trace). Perform software updates if manufacturer recommends.
  10. Reassemble, clear codes, and verify correct operation. Road-test and re-scan to confirm no recurrence.
