Causes

  • Open or high-resistance wiring in the current sense circuit
  • Poor or corroded connector or ground at the window motor or module
  • Failed or degraded window motor (open winding or internal fault)
  • Faulty window switch (driver door module) or harness to switch
  • Faulty BCM/window control module or its current sensor input
  • Blown fuse or faulty relay feeding the window circuit

Symptoms

  • Driver window will not move down (may not move at all) or moves very slowly
  • Intermittent window operation or works in one direction only
  • DTC B2357 stored and present on scan tool
  • Other windows and functions may operate normally (isolates to driver circuit)
  • Possible error/alert on dash (depending on vehicle)

What to check

  • Retrieve freeze frame and live data with a scan tool; verify B2357 is active or stored and note conditions when it set
  • Attempt to operate driver window while watching live current or current sense parameter
  • Visually inspect fuses, relays, door harness, connectors and motor connector for damage or corrosion
  • Perform wiggle tests on door harness and connectors while operating window
  • Measure voltage at the motor connector terminals with window commanded down (expect battery voltage at supply terminal)
  • Measure continuity and resistance of the sense wire between motor connector and BCM

Signal parameters

  • Supply voltage at motor: ~battery voltage when motor commanded (varies by vehicle)
  • Motor current while running: typically hundreds of milliamps to several amps under normal load (varies by motor and vehicle)
  • Current sense voltage: low (~0 V) at rest, increases when motor is commanded; expected range and thresholds vary by manufacturer (consult service data)
  • Sense circuit should not be open (infinite resistance) or shorted to ground/voltage

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Verify the code: connect a scan tool, confirm B2357 is present and note any accompanying codes.
  2. Record live data: command the driver window down and monitor the current or current-sense parameter, supply voltage, and switch inputs.
  3. Inspect: visually inspect door harness, connectors, motor connector, and ground points for corrosion, damage, or water ingress.
  4. Check fuses/relays: verify relevant fuses and relays for the power window circuit are good.
  5. Supply voltage test: with connector connected, have an assistant operate the window while you measure battery voltage at the motor supply terminal; confirm voltage is present when commanded.
  6. Sense circuit continuity: disconnect battery, isolate the sense wire and measure continuity/resistance between motor connector sense pin and BCM/window module sense pin. Check for shorts to ground or battery.
  7. Motor test: if supply and sense wiring are good, disconnect motor and bench-test motor for proper operation and current draw under load. Compare to spec where available.
  8. Connector and pin repair: repair or replace any corroded/damaged connectors, repair broken wires (avoid just soldering across insulation without proper shrink tubing and strain relief).
  9. Module input test: if wiring and motor check good, test or replace BCM/window module or its current-sense circuit per manufacturer procedures.
  10. Clear codes and retest: after repairs, clear the DTCs, operate the window through full travel cycles and confirm the code does not return.

Likely causes

  • Broken sense wire between window motor and BCM
  • Corroded motor connector causing high resistance and low current
  • Window motor internal winding open or high resistance
  • BCM current sense input damaged or shorted
  • Intermittent connector contact from pin corrosion or bulkhead grommet wear

Fault status
