Causes

What to check

  • Read and record freeze-frame / fault history with a scan tool
  • Visual inspection of sensor, connector, and wiring for damage, corrosion, or moisture
  • Wiggle test wiring and connector while monitoring live data for dropouts
  • Measure sensor supply (reference voltage) and ground at the connector
  • Measure sensor output voltage with known brake pressure applied (live data or multimeter)
  • Check module grounds and power supplies for continuity and proper voltage

Signal parameters

  • Sensor reference supply: typically ~5.0 V (range ~4.5–5.5 V) — stable
  • Sensor ground: near 0 V
  • Output voltage at zero pressure: typically ~0.5–1.0 V (varies by design)
  • Output voltage under brake pressure: typically proportional, common range ~0.5–4.5 V
  • Signal behavior expected: smooth, proportional change with increasing/decreasing pressure; no sudden drops to open or short
  • Intermittent/erratic fault: sudden signal spikes, dropouts to 0 V, or random noisy output

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a capable scan tool and confirm C056C is current or historic; record freeze-frame and live data for Brake Pressure Sensor B.
  2. Visually inspect sensor B, its connector and routing for damage, pin corrosion, water entry, or chafing. Repair any damage found.
  3. With ignition ON, backprobe the sensor connector: verify reference voltage (≈5 V) and good ground. Replace or repair wiring if supply/ground is unstable or missing.
  4. Monitor sensor B output voltage with a meter or live-data while applying/releasing brakes. Look for smooth proportional change. If output drops out or is noisy, suspect sensor or wiring.
  5. Perform wiggle test: gently move wiring and connector while watching live data for intermittent changes. Repair or replace wiring/connector if fault correlates.
  6. Compare Sensor B readings to Sensor A (if present) under the same conditions. Significant disagreement suggests a sensor or circuit-specific issue.
  7. If wiring and connectors test good, remove and bench-test or replace the brake pressure sensor B. Re-test to confirm fault cleared.
  8. If replaced sensor still reports intermittent signal, inspect/repair ABS module connector and module grounds. Consider module replacement only after eliminating wiring and sensor faults.
  9. Clear codes and perform a road/functional test to verify code does not return and ABS/ESC operate normally.
