Right Front LFI Open/Short | Right Front Low Frequency InitiatorI Open/Short Failure

Causes

  • Open circuit (broken wire, disconnected connector) in right front LFI harness
  • Short to ground or battery in LFI circuit
  • Corroded or loose connector pins at seat or floor harness
  • Failed right front LFI (squib/pretensioner)
  • Damage from previous deployment or improper repairs
  • Faulty SRS/airbag control module or internal test fault

Symptoms

  • SRS / Airbag warning lamp illuminated on dash
  • Possible disablement of right front airbag or pretensioner
  • Diagnostic trouble codes stored in SRS control module
  • Some models may show related messages on instrument cluster

What to check

  • Read and record all SRS codes with a capable scan tool; note freeze-frame and readiness status
  • Perform a careful visual inspection of right front seat area, connector(s) under seat, and wiring to B-pillar/floor
  • Check for signs of water ingress, corrosion, or previous deployment repairs
  • Measure resistance of the right front LFI squib (with SRS system disabled per OEM safety procedure)
  • Perform continuity and short-to-ground/short-to-voltage checks between squib and SRS control module connector
  • Wiggle test wiring while monitoring resistance/scan tool to locate intermittent faults

Signal parameters

  • Normal squib/initiator resistance: typically very low (approx. 0.5–5 Ω depending on vehicle); consult OEM spec
  • Open circuit: very high resistance or OL (infinite Ω)
  • Short condition: very low resistance approaching 0 Ω or short to chassis/vehicle power
  • SRS module detects abnormal current/voltage during self-test and sets open/short flag

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Safety first: follow OEM SRS service procedure before any work. Disable SRS power (disconnect battery and wait the manufacturer-specified time or use recommended disabling method).
  2. Use a scan tool to confirm C1352 and read any additional SRS-related codes or data.
  3. Visually inspect right front seat, seatbelt pretensioner, airbag connector(s), and wiring harness for damage, corrosion, or evidence of deployment.
  4. With SRS disabled per OEM instructions, disconnect the right front LFI connector and measure squib resistance at the connector. Compare to manufacturer specification. If out of spec, replace the initiator/squib assembly.
  5. Check continuity from the SRS control module harness connector pin to the right front LFI connector pin. Verify no short to ground or battery. Repair any open or shorted wiring—repair harness or replace connector as required.
  6. If harness and connector are good and resistance at the squib is within spec, clear codes and perform an SRS system self-test with scan tool. If code returns, suspect SRS control module or intermittent wiring.
  7. After repair, clear DTCs, reconnect SRS power, and confirm the SRS lamp goes out and no related codes return. If the vehicle has been deployed or components replaced, follow OEM post-repair verification and replacement procedures.

Likely causes

  • Damaged/disconnected connector at right front seat or B-pillar
  • Broken or pinched wire in harness under seat
  • Failed initiator/squib (low-frequency device) in right front seatbelt or airbag
  • Corrosion or poor contact at terminal pins
  • Wiring shorted to chassis ground or battery feed

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Right-front low-frequency initiator circuit — open or short detected. SRS/pretensioner circuit may be disabled. Inspect right-front initiator, connector and wiring; follow SRS safety procedures.
