- Test the oil control valve electrically (resistance and apply battery power briefly) and functionally (observe movement or change in cam angle with scanner). Replace if inoperative or sticking.
- Check oil passages and VVT actuator for sludge/build‑up; if suspected, remove and inspect phaser and OCV. Clean or replace components as required.
- If electrical and hydraulic components test good but actual cam angle remains incorrect, perform mechanical timing inspection: check cam/crank correlation and timing chain/belt condition for stretch or jump.
- If mechanical timing is correct and components are replaced but fault persists, review PCM software level and consider PCM diagnosis/reprogramming.
- After repairs, clear codes and perform a road test/extended idling while monitoring live data to confirm intake cam timing responds and code does not return.
