Causes

  • Blown or poor fuse/fusible link supplying the sensor or module
  • Open, short or high resistance in harness between sensor and control module
  • Corroded, loose or water‑damaged connector at sensor or module
  • Faulty power supply sensor (internal failure)
  • Faulty control module or internal driver/ADC failure
  • Low or unstable battery voltage or poor battery/ground connections

Symptoms

  • DTC B1297 stored and MIL or body warning lamp may be present
  • Loss or intermittent operation of systems dependent on the monitored supply
  • Vehicle may show communication or module errors on scan tool
  • Possible failure to start or erratic electrical behavior if supply is critical
  • Symptoms may be intermittent and sometimes clear after reconnecting battery or parts

What to check

  • Read and record all stored codes and freeze frame data with a capable scan tool
  • Inspect relevant fuses and relays; verify fuse continuity and correct rating
  • Visually inspect wiring and connectors at the sensor, fusebox and control module for damage or corrosion
  • Check battery state-of-charge and battery terminal/ground connections for tightness and corrosion
  • Measure voltage at the sensor connector (supply, signal, ground) with wiring harness connected
  • Perform wiggle tests while monitoring signal for intermittent faults

Signal parameters

  • Sensor supply: typically battery voltage (approx. 11–14.5 V) or a regulated 5 V reference depending on design — consult factory data
  • Signal output: analog voltage or digital value expected to be stable and within manufacturer specified range
  • Signal circuit continuity: near 0 Ω to ground for ground pin, low resistance to supply; open circuit or >1 kΩ indicates fault
  • Communication lines (if present): CAN/LIN activity should be verified with scope/scan tool per OEM specs

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a diagnostic scan tool, record B1297 and any related codes, note freeze frame data and active/inactive status.
  2. Check battery voltage and charging system; ensure battery is charged and connections are clean/tight.
  3. Inspect fuses/relays related to the sensor and associated module; replace any suspect fuses and re-check.
  4. Visually inspect sensor connector and wiring for corrosion, bent pins, water intrusion, or damage; repair as required.
  5. Backprobe the sensor connector with harness connected: verify reference supply, signal voltage, and ground continuity while key is on; compare to factory values.
  6. Perform continuity/resistance checks from sensor connector to module connector to identify opens or high resistance; repair or replace damaged wiring/harness.
  7. If intermittent, perform wiggle test on wiring and connectors while monitoring signal with a scope or scan tool; isolate location of fault.
  8. If wiring and power are good but signal is out of range, replace the power supply sensor and retest.
  9. If fault persists after sensor replacement, check the receiving module (BCM/PCM) for internal faults or perform module bench test/reprogramming per factory procedures.
  10. Clear codes and verify repair by road test and by confirming the code does not return under the same conditions.

Likely causes

  • Corroded connector at the power supply sensor or BCM/PCM
  • Broken or chafed wire causing open circuit or short to ground/12V
  • Blown fuse or poor fuse contact in the associated fusebox
  • Failed power supply sensor element
  • Poor battery negative or engine ground connection causing incorrect measurements

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Power supply sensor circuit failure detected. The control module is receiving an invalid, missing or out‑of‑range signal from the power supply sensor. Inspect sensor, wiring, fuses and module.
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
⏱️ Diagnostic time: 0.5-2.0 hours
