Causes

Signal parameters

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a compatible scan tool, read DTCs and freeze-frame data. Note engine conditions when fault set.
  2. Visually inspect throttle body connector, wiring harness and PCM connector for damage, corrosion or loose pins; repair as needed.
  3. With ignition ON (engine OFF), backprobe TPS connector: verify 5V reference and ground are steady. If 5V missing/erratic, trace power supply/fuse and PCM reference.
  4. With engine running or during key-on throttle sweep, monitor live TPS A and TPS B voltages. Slowly open/close throttle and confirm both signals increase smoothly and correlate closely.
  5. If voltages do not correlate, use an oscilloscope to compare waveforms for noise, dropouts or inconsistent scaling. Perform wiggle test on harness while monitoring.
  6. If wiring and power/ground are good but outputs still mismatch, bench-test or replace the throttle body / TPS assembly per manufacturer procedure.
  7. After repair, clear codes and perform a road test or drive cycle to confirm the fault does not return. If code persists with good wiring and new sensor, investigate PCM/software update or replacement.
